PAST PROJECTS

Education for diversity

Where is Sara? is a diverse book about disability. Simona Epure and Anca Smărăndache lead a series of workshops with a group of 5 children with neurocognitive and motor impairments and 5 typical volunteers. The authors drew inspiration from stories, drawings and interaction with the children to create a book that turns them into story heroes. The picture book and the teaching guide are available on our website.

Education for diversity

"Stories for Diversity" is a diversity education project for preschoolers, inspired by Learning for Justice and based on the curriculum developed by Julie Olsen Edwards and Louise Derman-Sparks (Anti-bias education for young children and ourselves). This is an ongoing program, organized every year since 2020.

Literacy & picture books

Stories for My Rights is a series of webinars and reading workshops to promote the use of picture books in children's rights education.

For the first edition, we brought together international and national experts in children's rights education and accessibility.

Education for diversity

“Nanata” is the second book of The New Storytellers, a diverse book project focused on the Roma community. The book is available online and it will be published in print in 2022. 500 copies were donated to local kindergartens and libraries, through a partnership with OvidiuRo. An educational toolkit is also available on our website.

 

Education for diversity

“The Horse Head Ring” is the third book of The New Storytellers, a diverse book project focused on the Roma community. It is the first illustrated book about the history of Roma. The book was published in 2022 by Editura Seneca. 450 copies were donated to local schools, through a partnership with Roma Education Fund.

"The Dearest Family in the World" is a story through which the little ones discover various family structures.

500 copies were donated as part of the "Stories for Diversity 2022" set. The book is also available on our website, along with a teaching guide.

Literacy & picture books

“What a surprise!” is the first book of Colorful Stories Incubator/2019, a project that aims to support the creation of short picture books, made in Romania. The book is available online until June 2021. 1000 copies were donated to local kindergartens through a partnership with OvidiuRo. An educational toolkit is also available on our website.

“The story of the Lost Kendama ” is the first book of The New Storytellers, a diverse book project focused on the Roma community. The book was published by Arthur publishing house. 500 copies were donated to local schools through a partnership with Teach for Romania. An educational toolkit is also available on our website.

Education for diversity

“Everything I Know About Us” is an anti-bias education module for grades 3 - 4 and 5 - 7. The module is based on the anti-bias framework developed by Teaching Tolerance and it allows kids to explore themes such as identity, diversity, justice and taking action. It was implemented in partnership with Teach for Romania; all learning materials are available on our website.

Literacy & picture books

“Serious Fun” is a literacy program based on picture books that we have implemented in a local school near Bucharest, Romania. The program is designed to enhance teaching at the right level, through learning activities that address all communication skills, while also developing kids’ creativity. A sample of our materials are available on our website.

Education for diversity

“Live from Giulești” is our very first project, created just before we officially became an association. A team of artists worked with a group of kids and created a comic book, 2 in-situ murals, a photography exhibition and a video installation. 250 copies of the comic book were donated to local schools and libraries.

Literacy & picture books

In 2018, we organized “Enormous Smallness - books that love children”, a seminar for 17 Romanian authors and illustrators. During this meeting, Jane G. Meyer, a writer and publisher of children's books in Santa Barbara, gave a training on how to write picture books with texts under 1000 words.


CURRENT PROJECTS

Education for diversity

12 young Roma participated to the ROMA S/HEROES online creative writing workshops, held from February to March 2022. Together with journalist Delia Marinescu, writer Iulia Iordan and a team of four illustrators, they created the first series of picture books for children aged 5+ about contemporary Roma personalities in Romania.

1800 copies will be donated to local schools.
